Congress gained rule after independence and ruined (ruining) as well

  • The Congress mimicked Indian society, its confusions, its hopes, its hypocrisy and its sense of plurality. Its genius lay in being not an ideologically uniform party but a conglomeration and celebration of shifting viewpoints.

  • D K Barooah’s claim that ‘India is Indira and Indira is India’ was a stupid but a more lethal imitation of ‘What is good for General Motors is good for America’. Each statement while repeatedly quotable was disastrous in terms of its politics.
